Lord of Light

History:

Jack Kirby: I got the basic ideas from the Great Battle in the novel, Lord of Light, where Roger Zelazny describes Sam's psychic abilities and personal powers as he goes into high battle with the Gods of Heaven. Yama, the God of Death, acts as Sam's charioteer! As with the majority of my experiences with him, Jack took the basic ideas and delivered a knockout punch, quickly delivering this Title graphic which really embodies the main character, Lord of Light. Sam's "Belt of the Binder" binds electricity, energy, and gravity, too. Boy, what I would do with a belt like that!

Lord of Light: Known as  the Lord of Light, Prince of Kapil, Mahasamatman, The Binder of Demons, Prince Siddhartha, and the Buddha -- but plain Sam to his friends. He was originally a chemist who created special hydroponics on the Starship India. On this planet he became one of the greatest warriors of the early planetary wars with his former colleagues who are now the Gods of Heaven. During much of that time, (almost 800 years), he was married to Candi, now known as Kali, Goddess of Destruction. She was a powerful warrior in her own right and they often fought side by side. These days, she plots for his death....

Here he is all decked out in his electronic Battle Armor with his fabled Talisman Belt of the Binder which expands his ability to control electrical and gravitational energies as he prepares to fight the Gods of Heaven and the demons of the Rakasha.
